“Things fall apart and the center cannot hold”
I’ve been writing about the travails of our feral elite since I started this blog yet I’m shocked by how fast our country is falling apart. The examples of the gross incompetence multiplies by the day, largely because Trump and the people around him are accelerants.
We are well on the way to a poly-crisis, and a lot of ugly things are being revealed about the true failures of our putative elite. Concurrently, the full-spectrum surveillance is ramping up as the powers that be are increasingly worried about their legitimacy and ability to hold on to power.

French historian, Emmanuel Todd has a new preface to his book “The Defeat of the West,“ that well sums up the rot. “The Empire is vast and is falling apart amid noise and fury. This Empire is already polycentric, divided on its goals, schizophrenic. But none of its parts is truly independent. Trump is its current ‘centre’; he is also its best ideological and practical expression, combining a rational desire to retreat into its immediate sphere of domination (Europe and Israel) with nihilistic impulses that favour war. These tendencies – withdrawal and violence – are also expressed within the American heart of the Empire, where the principle of hierarchical fracturing operates internally. A growing number of Anglo-American authors are evoking the coming of a civil war.
One of the interesting features of America today is that its leaders are finding it increasingly difficult to distinguish between internal and external issues, despite MAGA’s attempt to stop immigration from the south with a wall. The army fires on boats leaving Venezuela, bombs Iran, enters the centers of Democratic cities in the United States, and sponsors the Israeli air force for an attack on Qatar, where there is a huge American base. Any science fiction reader will recognize in this disturbing list the beginnings of a descent into dystopia, that is, a negative world where power, fragmentation, hierarchy, violence, poverty and perversity intermingle.”
Todd gained prestige in the 1970’s by predicting the fall of the USSR using sociological data so he is uniquely positioned to diagnose the problems facing the United States as well as the West. Todd states that the US’s defeat in Ukraine represents the single greatest strategic defeat in American history, and marks a pivotal point in the US empire’s decline.
From Somalia to Iran to Yemen, to Venezuela back to Ukraine, the US is attacking everywhere. It’s because the proxy war using Ukraine against Russia, which everyone thought was going to be a cakewalk while providing the world with an object lesson in US domination, is headed for a massive, embarrassing defeat. For example, presently Trump is selling weapons the US doesn’t have to Europe, which can’t afford them, in order to arm Ukraine, which lacks the manpower to use them. And now time is running out on America’s deficit and debt crisis.

However, there’s another clue to the rapid American decline. During a speech before the Israeli parliament on Monday, President Trump once again publicly admitted that he’s being bribed by the Adelson’s–the late Sheldon and now Miriam–to implement Israel-friendly policies. And that raises a profound question. Is America unraveling because it’s controlled by a foreign country, that has plunged it into endless wars since 9/11?
In Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, Libya, and now Ukraine, the United States completely failed in its stated missions, and instead succeeded in killing millions, creating tens of millions of refugees, wasting trillions of dollars, while utterly destroying the reputation of America. According to a Brown University report, total cost of the post-9/11 wars was $8 trillion. Imagine what all that money would have paid for here at home?
Meanwhile there’s a full court-press by the political and corporate media elite to squash any and all criticism of Israel, especially loose talk of the control wealthy Zionists have over our president.

Unfortunately, Trump’s administration contains some seriously dangerous individuals like chief of staff, Stephen Miller and OMB director, Russell Vought, mixed in with the serial fuck-ups like Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth and Director of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem. It’s Trump’s circus and you need to watch all the clowns.
Update: It’s mind-blowing that after obsessing over Russia-gate for 4 plus years the corporate media has ignored the fact that the president of the United States has repeatedly confessed to being bought and owned by the world’s richest Israeli. Gee, I wonder why?
