While cynically appealing to working-class anger over the cost of living and social inequality, the Democrats are making clear that their central priority is a massive and dangerous escalation of the war against Russia. The Democrats agree with Trump’s assault on social programs and the working class. Their opposition to Trump is based on their charge that he is insufficiently aggressive towards Putin and Russia.
I wonder if this is a winning issue with Americans overwhelmed with the vast inequality brought about by bi-partisan neoliberal economic policies that have produced exploding healthcare, education, housing and food costs for average Americans while sluicing all of the profits to banks, corporations and the billionaire owners. But this is the Resistance to Trump. Let that sink in.
The Democratic Party and the corporate media are preparing for this escalation by whipping up war hysteria among the affluent upper-middle class and denouncing Trump as too soft on Russia. They have well and truly freaked out over Trump’s lifting of sanctions on Russian diesel. The Democrats denounced the deal within hours, and on October 13 a bipartisan group of 12 senators demanded that Trump rescind it as “a gift to our adversary.”
The New York Times, which is the mouthpiece of the wealthy, liberal professional/managerial/caste (PMC), who make up the Democratic Party elite, published at least 20 reports in October, with scary narratives based on alleged Russian threats to Europe and the danger of easing pressure on Moscow. It’s like the Cold War never ended and more confirmation of Orwell’s insight in 1984, where we’ve “always been at war with East Asia.” And always will be by the looks of it.

Of course the Republicans and corporate media pretend that liberal Democrats are weak sissy-boys and girls. Back when ex-ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle was an integral part of MAGA, at the 2020 Republican National Convention, she shouted—“They want to enslave you to the weak, dependent, liberal, victim ideology, to the point that you will not recognize this country or yourself,” Guilfoyle said of Democrats
Liberal Democrats respond, consistently and predictably, by being even bigger war-humpers, just to show those mean Republicans, and to demonstrate, once again, their national-security bona fides to the always war, all the time, corporate media. Wash, rinse, repeat. I’ve been watching this shit my whole life and it’s getting old.
Of course, the ongoing liberal Cold War hysteria achieved exit velocity with the Russia-gate psyop in 2016, where liberal Democrats blamed Putin and Russia for Hillary’s loss to Trump and, indeed, every electoral set back on Russian disinformation and interference. Treat yourself to a cookie if you noticed that this is much easier for the Democrats than looking in the mirror at their own disastrous policies.
Liberals have repeatedly alleged a close relationship between Putin and Trump that skews US policies towards appeasement but the reality points towards a continued hostility towards Russia no matter which administration is in power. U.S. President Donald Trump repeatedly promised he could end the Russo-Ukrainian War quickly. Yet the Trump Administration’s actions have consistently followed the deep state strategy that demands capitulation to pax-America.
The clearest example is the reported expansion of CIA and Pentagon support for Ukraine’s campaign against Russian energy infrastructure. A New York Times investigation reported that the CIA and U.S. military, acting with Trump’s approval, “supercharged a Ukrainian campaign of drone strikes on Russian oil facilities and tankers.” The campaign was designed to damage the financial base of Russia’s war effort while allowing Washington to retain distance from the actual attacks.
Trump’s first term offers a useful test of his appeasement. Despite campaign language favoring improved ties with Moscow, his administration withdrew from the Open Skies Treaty and the INF Treaty, provided lethal aid to Ukraine, targeted Russian contractors in Syria, and signed the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act. His record showed that he is just like any other recent president in that it doesn’t matter what he wants because Washington’s permanent national security elite–the deep state–always wants wars for empire, whether cold or hot.
This is the political reality that voting harder will not fix. We have elites who are completely disconnected from the normal Americans, especially those in harder economic circumstances. The elites have chosen policies that intensify the problem of the misappropriation and maldistribution of wealth, more and more going to the top, the billionaire Epstein class, while waging endless war for empire.
